Key Responsibilities

Conduct on-site and laboratory materials/metallurgical investigations

  • Conduct on-site and laboratory mechanical failures investigations
  • Provide concise written reports with a professional opinion regarding the origin and cause of the failure.
  • Timely oral and written correspondence with clients in all phases of investigations, mediations or trials
  • Complete various design and reporting functions through the use of Microsoft Office
  • Provide expert testimony in court when required
  • Travel throughout Alberta and possibly other locations on short notice
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and execute all phases according to internal and client standards
  • Staying on the leading edge of scientific knowledge in the industry by seeking out continuous training and education
  • Collaborate with experts in other disciplines as needed for complex investigations requiring different specialties
  • Coordinate/execute parallel investigations with other experts representing various parties
  • Review and interpret applicable codes and standards
  • Perform additional duties as required

Experience and Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the forensic industry
  • Experience in fractography of metallic and non-metallic materials at both macroscopic and microscopic level
  • Experience in mechanical failures
  • Understanding and interpretation of analytical results by means of ICP-MS, FTIR, GC-MS, DSC, XRD
  • Understanding of materials interaction with surrounding environment
  • Understanding of mechanical systems
  • Registered Alberta P.Eng license
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license and access to a vehicle
