These events have, in turn, had a major impact on insurers, who paid out $1.9 billion in 2018 from the effects of extreme weather events that took place across Canada. However, while snow and ice, wind and water are often contributing factors, the damage caused by extreme weather is sometimes merely symptomatic of other preexisting issues.
