Key responsibilities
Conduct on-site and laboratory materials/metallurgical investigations
- Conduct on-site and laboratory mechanical failures investigations
- Provide concise written reports with a professional opinion regarding the origin and cause of the failure.
- Timely oral and written correspondence with clients in all phases of investigations, mediations or trials
- Complete various design and reporting functions through the use of Microsoft Office
- Provide expert testimony in court when required
- Travel throughout Alberta and possibly other locations on short notice
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and execute all phases according to internal and client standards
- Staying on the leading edge of scientific knowledge in the industry by seeking out continuous training and education
- Collaborate with experts in other disciplines as needed for complex investigations requiring different specialties
- Coordinate/execute parallel investigations with other experts representing various parties
- Review and interpret applicable codes and standards
- Perform additional duties as required
Experience and Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the forensic industry
- Experience in fractography of metallic and non-metallic materials at both macroscopic and microscopic level
- Experience in mechanical failures
- Understanding and interpretation of analytical results by means of ICP-MS, FTIR, GC-MS, DSC, XRD
- Understanding of materials interaction with surrounding environment
- Understanding of mechanical systems
- Registered Alberta P.Eng license
- Valid Canadian driver’s license and access to a vehicle
