Mark has worked for the provincial downstream hydrocarbon regulator in Ontario for approximately 14 years. He has led over 500 fire and 100 explosion investigations involving natural gas, propane, fuel oil, diesel, gasoline, hydrogen, digester and landfill gas. Mark has extensive experience in hydrocarbon appliance operation and failure mechanisms, and expert knowledge of all Canadian codes and regulations with respect to hydrocarbon fuels. Mark worked for the Alberta Energy Regulator for 2 years where he specialized in pipeline inspection and failure investigations with respect to the upstream oil and gas industry. Mark has CFEI, G1, LP, PM2 certifications and over 25 years of experience in the hydrocarbon fuels industry.
Mike is Fuels Specialist and Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator. He has over 45 years of experience in the fuels industry, including 18 years investigating various fuel applications, incendiary fires suspected to have a fuel involvement, as well as suspicious fires, fire fatalities and gaseous explosions. These investigations include the determination of the area of the fire origin, fuels involved and source of ignition. Mike also has experience investigating environmental issues caused by fuels, including major petroleum leaks and pipeline damages. Mike has appeared in court, preparing prosecution packages and presenting findings.
Andrea is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator. She has over 10 years of experience with the Ontario Fire Marshal, prior to which she served as an officer with the Halton Regional Police Service for 22 years. To date Andrea has been involved in over 763 fire and explosive investigations. She has been qualified as an expert in fire and explosive investigations in Ontario Court and Superior Court of Justice for the Province of Ontario. Andrea is also an associate instructor for the Ontario Fire College and has taught the NFPA 1033 fire course to firefighters and police.
Cody is an NFPA and Safety Codes Certified Fire Investigator. He has over 24 years of experience as a Fire Service Leader, Safety Codes Officer and Fire Investigator. Cody started as a firefighter in the town of High River in 1997 before attaining the rank of captain in 2005, and inspector in 2018. In 2019, Cody was promoted to Fire Chief of High River. He has investigated over 200 fires including structure and vehicle fires.
Gary is a Certified Fire and Explosions Investigator. He has over 25 years of professional experience investigating fire and explosion scenes with an urban Fire Department. He has been involved in more than 2,000 structural fires, 500 vehicle fires, and has been the senior officer involved in 36 fatal fire investigations. He has also conducted more than 800 reconstructed test burns over the course of his career.
Alexa is a Mechanical Engineer, Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator. She has a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Master’s degree in mechanical and industrial engineering from the University of Toronto. She has attended and investigated over 300 fire scenes, including over 150 vehicle fires.
Ryan specializes in fire and explosion investigations and has 23 years of experience working for the Calgary Police Service, including three years in the Homicide Unit and three in the Joint Forces Arson Unit. During his tenure with the Police Service, Ryan was awarded the Exemplary Service Medal and earned his CFEI and CVFI designations. To date, Ryan has investigated over 1,200 residential, commercial and vehicle fires and/or explosions and has been utilized by public policing agencies and private insurers to assess/conduct and assist with civil and criminal investigations, both ongoing or under review. Additionally, Ryan works regularly with law firms requiring detailed analysis of fire investigations, both public and private, civil and criminal, and has been designated as an expert witness within the discipline of fire investigation by the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Court of Kings Bench. He is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) and the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).
Michelle specializes in all types of vehicle and equipment fire investigations, including failure analysis, as well as product liability, residential and commercial appliances. She has experience investigating vehicle and equipment losses in all industries including construction, agriculture, transportation, forestry and passenger vehicles. Prior to entering the field of forensic engineering, Michelle performed mechanical engineering tests and evaluations for Ford Canada and was an equipment engineer for Samsung Austin Semiconductor.
Allen is a Certified Forensic Fire and Explosion Investigator with over 20 years’ experience in fire suppression. He is a former captain qualified fire investigator with the City of Edmonton fire rescue services investigations branch and has performed over 1500 investigations including fatalities, large structures, arson fires, vehicle and machinery fires. He is currently a member of the NAFI, FIAA and IAFF.
Kevin is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Fuels Specialist. He has over 18 years of experience in the fuels industry and over 25 years of skilled trades experience as a Licensed, Red Seal Industrial Electrician. Prior to OCI Group, Kevin spent 10 years as Fuels Inspector/Regional Supervisor with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) which is the Provincial fuels Regulator in Ontario. As such, Kevin has in-depth knowledge of fuels related technical codes and regulations. His investigative experience includes industrial, commercial, residential, and agricultural fires. Kevin also has experience with incendiary fires suspected to have a fuel involvement, natural gas pipeline fires, fuel spills and gaseous fuel explosions. Kevin is also a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator. Kevin has given evidence in Provincial Court.
