Matthew Smith is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI) with more than 16 years of experience in fire service and forensic investigations. His background with the Calgary Fire Department includes serving as a Safety Codes Officer and Fire Investigator, where he conducted over 250 fire and explosion investigations.

Matthew specializes in origin and cause investigations for residential, commercial, industrial, and vehicle fire losses. He is committed to delivering thorough, evidence-based findings that support insurance, legal, and risk management matters. Matthew is a member of the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).

As a Fire and Explosion Investigator at OCI Group, Justin McKay specializes in origin and cause investigations, as well as mechanical engineering failure analysis. He conducts forensic examinations of fire and explosion incidents, applying engineering principles to evaluate physical evidence and determine contributing factors.

Justin holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with Co-operative Education designation from the University of Victoria and is registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in British Columbia.

As a Structural Engineer at OCI Group, Charly Massaad conducts forensic investigations to determine the cause and extent of structural failures and property damage across residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. His experience includes evaluating losses related to fire, water infiltration, building envelope deficiencies, structural failures, and code compliance.

Charly manages forensic engineering assignments from initial site inspection through to final reporting, coordinating with clients while conducting detailed structural assessments and analyses. He prepares repair recommendations, develops stamped engineering drawings, and performs site reviews to verify construction compliance and support rehabilitation projects.

In addition to his technical expertise, Charly reviews construction documentation, technical specifications, contracts, and applicable building codes to assess liability and identify contributing factors to structural failures. He delivers clear, evidence-based engineering reports and expert opinions to support insurance claims, legal proceedings, and dispute resolution.

As a Structural Engineer, Dimitri Djuricic conducts structural assessments and investigations involving a wide range of building systems and construction methods. He is a licensed Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) and has extensive experience in the design and construction of high-rise residential towers, tilt-up buildings, and Part 9 buildings in accordance with the British Columbia Building Code (BCBC). Dmitri has worked extensively with concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and aluminum, applying Canadian design codes to evaluate structural performance and develop practical engineering solutions.

Mohammad Shehadeh is a Structural Engineer specializing in forensic structural investigations, building assessments, and the design and rehabilitation of structural systems. His experience includes the analysis and design of wood, steel, and concrete structures, fire separation design, and building code compliance reviews. Mohammad conducts detailed evaluations of structural and environmental failures, providing practical engineering solutions for a wide range of building types. His work involves all stages of an investigation, from assessing existing conditions and determining causes of failure to developing effective repair and rehabilitation recommendations.

Noah Hebb is a Structural Engineering Intern with OCI Group specializing in structural assessments and support services for buildings affected by fire, treefall, snow loading, and water damage. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University and completed a professional internship during his studies. Since joining OCI Group, he has been involved in more than 20 structural assessment and support projects, assisting with damage evaluations, emergency stabilization measures, and repair recommendations for a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

OCI Group structural engineer Helena Wollman specializes in forensic structural investigations for residential, commercial, and industrial properties, including the analysis, assessment, and design of rebuild efforts following structural losses and failures. Her experience includes investigations involving wood, steel, concrete, and masonry structures, as well as the evaluation of structural damage and construction-related deficiencies.

Helena’s background includes structural design and analysis for new construction projects, renovations, and fit-outs across Western Canada. She has extensive knowledge of Part 4 of the National Building Code of Canada and has provided consulting services throughout various phases of construction, from design development to on-site support and project coordination.

With experience spanning both forensic investigations and structural design, Helena brings a practical and technically focused approach to complex structural challenges, helping clients identify causes of failure and develop effective repair and rebuilding solutions.

Marcin is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator with nearly two decades of experience in engineering and forensic fire investigation. He graduated with honours from the Mechanical Engineering Technology program at NAIT and brings over 10 years of design engineering experience, including advanced proficiency in multiple 3D design platforms and specialized work in hydraulic surface tools for the oilfield industry.

His work focuses on vehicle and structural fire investigations, providing technical and analytical consulting services to the insurance industry. He is currently awaiting Professional Technologist certification and holds two patents.

Michael is a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) as well as a Registered Building Code Designer (BCIN) and has more than a decade of engineering experience working directly under the supervision of a Professional Civil Engineer across residential, commercial, institutional and agricultural projects. With advanced skills in AutoCAD, strong working knowledge of Revit, and a deep understanding of the Ontario Building Code, he specializes in producing precise architectural, structural and civil site drawings. Mike has led a wide range of projects and utilizing his skills with structural calculations, technical accuracy, client-focused solutions, strong problem-solving and efficient building permit packages as well as in depth knowledge for obtaining minor variance applications within several different municipalities.

Isabella is an investigator specializing in Materials Engineering. She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Toronto, with a certificate in Forensic Engineering.
