Rise of the Machines: Appliance Fire and Flood Claims

May 27, 2020   This event has passed

Back by popular demand! In this reprised webinar, we will be looking at appliances found in kitchens, laundry rooms and basements that are most likely to be the cause of fire and flood claims.

In Canada, approximately 1 out of 5 residential fires start in the kitchen – more than any other room in the house. Meanwhile, water damage (caused by water main breaks, overflowing appliances and hot water tank leaks) has replaced fire and theft as Canada’s largest source of claims. As a countermeasure to flooding, homeowners have been encouraged to install sump pumps, which have become yet another source of claims activity for both fire and flooding.

We will be examining the following appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Ranges
  • Dishwashers
  • Countertop appliances
  • Washing machines
  • Dryers
  • Sump Pumps

For each appliance, our objective is to understand:

  • How and why these appliances fail
  • The most common causes of loss
  • How to identify opportunities of subrogation
  • How to properly preserve evidence

Recommended for:

  • Property adjusters
  • Lawyers
  • Contractors
  • Risk managers
  • Manufacturers
  • Brokers

Accredited in British Columbia*, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
